Kawar Energy is the latest member of the Kawar Group, which reflects the group’s long-term interest in the energy field,especially renewable energy. This new practice allowed Kawar Energy to consolidate its efforts in the energy sector and to expand in new and innovative areas.

Its core mandate is bringing clean, green and sustainable energy solutions, helping Jordan and the region reduce energy bills and carbon footprint, and maintaining a positive socio-economic and environmental impact. The company cooperates with the world’s leading companies in Solar PV/CPV, Thermal, Wind and Bio-fuels.

As of 2015, Kawar Energy enjoys over 25% market share of the distributed energy in Jordan with its installed capacity reaching 9MW of solar PV projects serving several type of clients from commercial, industrial, educational and recreational facilities to residential and carports, all of which are constructed under the Shamsi brand connected to the medium (MV), or low (LV) voltage under the wheeling or net-metering schemes.

The management team of Kawar Energy played a key role in establishing and leading EDAMA, a national initiative to develop a sustainable energy, water and environment for the country – A blueprint for a green economy.

Kawar Energy builds on the experience gained from the early investment made in Energy Management Services (EMS),which was established in 1991 with a focus on energy conservation and shared savings. It has since exited from EMS but continues to build on the relationships established in the sector throughout the region.

Jordan imports 97% of its energy at the same time it has over 300 days of sunshine consequently the bigger challenge is harnessing the power of nature, the Sun. To that end, Kawar Energy is focused on solar energy in setting up solar farms. In 2008 Kawar Energy started Shams Ma’an project in the south of Jordan. The project resulted in the spin-off of an individual company, Shams Ma’an Power Generation Company that singed a PPA in March 2014 for a 52.5 MW PV project.

Shams Ma’an valued at $US170 million attracted world class investors such as Mitsubishi Corporation’s subsidiary Diamond Generating Europe with 35% stake and similarly Nebras Power, which is owned by Qatar’s Electricity and Water Company and Qatar Petroleum at 35%. As Kawar Group we retained 30% of the company for the life of the project. Financial close was achieved in January 2015 with Japanese is led by JBIC, Mizuho and NEXI from Japan.

Developing Shams Ma’an over the past 5 ½ years – Kawar Energy gained a unique insight and unparalleled experience required to design and build PV power plants at such scale, and all its intricate details. Hence Kawar Energy currently is developing Shams Al Mafraq another 50MWac solar plant in AlMafraq Area, Jordan.

Kawar Energy is currently commissioning the largest MV-Utility connected PV- plants in Aqaba – one under Net-Metering (@ MV) and the other under Wheeling (also @ MV) – having already built these 2 separate plants back in 2014: one with 3.3 MWp and the other with 2.61 MWp.

Kawar Energy and its international partners are highly confident in delivering to clients: a world class design, a commercially viable, feasible and sustainable PV-project. The company’s resources are not restricted to only technical, but also extend to the regulatory and legal frame-works. In certain projects, Kawar Energy works with its clients on project financing.
